Fastener + Fixing Magazine: Effective blade root repair

Fastener + Fixing Magazine tells readers effective blade root repair exists

Fastener + Fixing Magazine, a leading publication reporting on news in the fastening industry, has reported in its January 2023 issue about CNC Onsite’s wind turbine blade root repair service. Loose bushing in the root of the rotor blade root can loosen over time. This can be due to microcracks caused by polymer shrinkage. The inserts can then loosen and a gap can develop around the pocket where the insert should be firmly anchored.

Previously the repairs could only be conducted at the blade manufacturers. This required costly and cumbersome road transport of the whole blade and excessive downtime.

The repair method developed by Dutch We4Ce ((Link https://www.we4ce.eu/en ), and CNC Onsite allows the blade root inserts to be replaced on-site in the wind park. The blade is dismounted in the wind park and the blade root inserts are drilled out using a portable CNC-controlled machine. A new replacement insert is inserted, which is then fastened using epoxy resin that is distributed evenly around the insert to obtain maximum fastening.
