Germany’s Indutry-Channel carries yaw ring teeth repair story from CNC Onsite
A technical news portal, Industry-Channel covers innovations that has applicability across industries. The patented yaw ring repair method from CNC Onsite is interesting to readers of Industry-Channel as the method is rather unique. Normally, you would expect yaw ring teeth repair to be conducted with the CNC machine moving up and down. However, wind turbines often do not have enough room uptower to allow for that movement. Therefore CNC Onsite developed a machine that could work sideways.
The machine will automatically remove the damaged yaw ring teeth and will leave a pocket structure. This pocket includes threaded holes that are then used to fix the new yaw ring segments in the next step of the process.
Additionally, several raised ridges are created in the pocket which allows the new segment, equipped with corresponding indents, to be inserted like a jigsaw puzzle. This mechanical design improves the mechanical strength and will help prevent displacement of the replacement teeth, both axially and tangentially.
CNC Onsite started with one wind turbine type and perfected the yaw ring repair method. Now CNC Onsite has expanded the range of wind turbine types it can repair, the topic of a company announcement in March 2025. The yaw ring repair method was presented at WindEurope in Copenhagen 2025.
