Reaching thousands of professionals in mechanical power transmissions and motion control components, the magazine reported -in its industry news section- that CNC Onsite now offers yaw ring teeth repair for a range of turbines.

Wind turbine yaw ring gear failures — particularly broken or worn teeth — are a critical issue that can significantly impact turbine performance and operational costs. These failures can occur due to mechanical stresses, inadequate maintenance, or environmental factors.
But yaw ring teeth are challenging to repair uptower. CNC Onsite has developed a method that makes uptower repair of damaged yaw ring teeth possible. Its portable precision milling machine is transported up to the tower in several part. The machine is mounted onto the yaw ring and the machine can work sideways, removing the damaged yaw ring teeth. This needs to be done to precision.

The convention way to address yaw ring teeth damage is to disassemble the entire wind turbine using cranes. The yaw ring is then either replaced or welding is used to repair. Both methods are costly. Welding can be associated with problems like thermal distortion and metallurgical issues.
