Turkey's Gazeta Makina portal reports on yaw ring repair
March 2025
With over 13 gigawatts (GW) of wind turbines in Turkey, O&M is an important industry in the country. The Turkish magazine Gazeta Makina picked up CNC Onsite’s yaw ring repair service, which is a significant breakthrough for damaged yaw ring teeth. The magazine offers technical information to engineers and technicians in the wind sector, among other industries.
CNC Onsite’s repair is relevant to maintenance teams at Turkey’s 300 wind farms. Not all wind turbines are affected by yaw ring issues like these, but should it occur, it is an advantage to know that yaw ring teeth can be repaired up-tower. This means the whole yaw ring is not replaced but is repaired up-tower without the need to disassemble the whole nacelle. This is a costly exercise involving a crane and, of course, long downtimes.
The yaw ring repair service from CNC Onsite usually takes a few days. The damaged yaw ring teeth are drilled out using precision machine equipment. The machine can move sideways, not up and down, which is the usual method. The sideways movement means that the repair can be carried out despite the limited space up-tower.
